Tucked away in Trenton is a business that most people might never think about, but for musicians, it’s essential.
The Amp Shop, owned by Robert DeAntonio, specializes in the repair, restoration, and maintenance of amplifiers. It’s not a retail store or a place to browse gear, but rather what Rob describes as “an amp garage:” a space dedicated to keeping musicians up and running.
Rob officially opened this location in December 2024, but his experience goes back much further. He’s been working in the field since 2007, building a business that now serves hundreds of musicians each year.
Watch the video below to hear Rob share the story behind The Amp Shop.
A Craft That’s Disappearing, But Still Needed
In a world where most electronics are designed to be replaced rather than repaired, Rob’s work stands out.
“It’s kind of a dying art,” he explains, but one that still plays a critical role.
Musicians often form strong connections to their equipment. Instead of throwing something away and buying new, they want to preserve the sound and history behind it. That’s where The Amp Shop comes in, helping customers extend the life of their gear and avoid unnecessary costs.
Each year, the shop services anywhere from 350 to 500 amplifiers, ranging from tube amps to solid-state electronics and powered speakers.
Built on Relationships and Word of Mouth
For Rob, the technical work is only part of the job.
What matters just as much is the relationship with each customer.
From explaining repairs in a way that makes sense to helping musicians make informed decisions, the goal is always to create a positive experience. That approach has paid off, with word of mouth becoming his strongest source of business.
After nearly two decades in the industry, Rob has worked with over 4,000 customers across six continents.
A Full-Circle Moment in Trenton
The Amp Shop isn’t just located in Trenton — it’s part of Rob’s story.
Born in Chambersburg and later returning to the area after years away, opening the shop here represents a kind of homecoming.
He now operates multiple parts of his business locally, including:
- The Amp Shop 🔗 (service and repair)
- Jadedfaith Mods 🔗 (amplifier modifications)
- Evo Amplification 🔗 (custom-built amps and pedals)
His work takes place in the basement of the former Conduit nightclub, which is where Rob originally got his start.
“It’s a beautiful homecoming,” he says.
Supporting the Local Music Community
Beyond repairs, Rob sees his role as part of something bigger.
Whether it’s helping a band stay up and running, reconnecting with musicians he worked with decades ago, or donating restored equipment to those in need, especially children, The Amp Shop is deeply connected to the community it serves.
It’s a reminder that small businesses like this do more than provide a service. They help sustain local culture.
Looking Ahead
Rob is not currently enrolled in Trenton’s Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) program, but plans to be soon.
Programs like the UEZ can help businesses and their customers save money, which ultimately supports continued growth and accessibility within the local economy.
